Our FRP repair group was established to address the lack of qualified fiberglass reinforced plastic repair firms with the experience and training to address emergency repairs at the customer’s job site.

Classification of FRP Repair

  • Type 1 – Corrosion Barrier repairs
  • Type 2 – Corrosion barrier and interior structural layer repairs
  • Type 3 – External structural layer repairs
  • Type 4 – Alterations (modifications)
  • Type 5 – Miscellaneous general external repairs or alterations
  • Type 6 – Thermoplastic repairs (interior thermoplastic liners for dual laminate)
  • Type 7 – gel coat or exterior paint repairs

FRP Repair Site Preparation

When preparing the area for work consideration for the existing weather conditions must be addressed:

For northern locations in winter months an enclosure with heat to provide minimum surrounding temperatures of 50°F and protection from wind and moisture is required.

For southern locations in summer months and enclosure with air conditioning to reduce moisture and maintain surrounding temperature of less than 90°F is required. Temporary tarps should be erected around tanks which have direct solar (sun) exposure. Localized solar heating of the tank can produce non uniform gel and cure times for repair laminates.
